Viva la Wino!: 2004 Saint Cosme Chateauneuf-du-Pape

I love wine...especially good red wine...and particularly Chateauneuf-du-Pape...I just checked out the following blog for a review of the 2004 for $29...the 2006 bottle is selling for $49+...it's got to be great!

Got memories on my mind...

Well, it's been another long dry spell...Andre's still retired but now telling all about how much he hated tennis...too bad 'cuz so many of us enjoyed watching him! Roger FINALLY won the French Open and is a new father...and the big news today is that Oprah is pulling the plug on her show at the end of 2010.

I went back to Doha in June and then Doha returned to me...at least for a
few days...we all ended up in Tucson...what a neat town! Golfed in 114 temp! Hate the speed limits, though! Got a ticket going 51 in a 40! Forty on a dual lane road...forty?!? They only have
12 cars in Tucson (it's a biking town!), can't believe how slow they make you drive...

The economy sucks and we've got a new president...poor guy can't seem to do a thing right. It's one thing to grumble about some of his politics but some of the complaints are too personal...it's as bad as it was with good ole' George (but he really deserved some of the heat!). Our country is so divided...both politically and between the haves and the have nots! I used to be Republican and pro-business...but the "Republicans" as I knew them have lost control and business has just gotten more greedy than ever! They don't learn...why do they think we got unions back in the dark ages...because business was too greedy back then.

Well, Blog, I'll get off the soapbox and on to better things. The holidays are coming and I'll be getting the house ready for decorating...love doing that. Gotta stay away from Parson's Christmas Store! If I don't get back to you before the holidays, my wishes for the Christmas holiday and the New Year are for much happiness and success and that we get out of this bloody recession soon! Don't know what next year will bring, so I think I'll spend some time on old good memories!!!

Anyway...

Anyway...

Well, Blog...it's been another stretch since I've been back...going to have to devote more attention to you...

Well, Andre's still retired, Roger recently bent a racket in a bad match, I went back to the desert again, and I'm still wondering how George Bush sleeps at night! I know Obama can't be getting much sleep with everything Bush left pending...

As I said, went back to the desert...that was last May and June (2008)...going again this year...I really love Qatar...Doha, even with all its traffic, is still a neat place to visit...watch out, Dubai...it's catching up and doesn't have as many problems! Have some neat pictures from our trip to the sand dunes at Umm Said...this photo is of all the kids sitting on the top of one of the sand dunes. We rented dune buggies and tried to conquer the dunes! It was a gorgeous evening...probably only 104 degrees!

How does George Bush sleep at night?
It's been ages since I've been here...Andre retired from tennis...Roger is doing great with his racquet, and I'm back golfing...just came back from a great golf trip on Hilton Head Island...it's so beautiful there...maybe someday I'll live there...$$$$$...found a great lot on the ocean to build a house...more $$$$$...when I win the lottery!

It's too bad that there isn't some way of preventing the creeps from posting their own advertising on these blogs...don't they realize that they're wasting their time and they just get deleted...at least I hope that's what everyone does!

I was back in the Gulf last winter, but this time in Doha, Qatar, for the Asian Games...fantastic event...saw the beautiful Opening Ceremonies and some of the venues...love the Equestrian games...Doha really went all out...had to have used up a lot of that oil money to put the games on because they were great! Now the games move to China...I'm sure they won't be out done, either.

Don't have much to report...just waiting for Bush to get out of office...gawd, and I'm a Republican, too! Not much in the field to choose from for the upcoming elections...the news media makes it impossible for a good candidate...sure wish Bloomberg would change his mind...

I'll be back again when I have more...

The Height of a Good Tennis Match...

A friend from the Gulf recently emailed me these photos of a private tennis match between Andre Agassi and Roger Federer. I wish I could give credit to the photographer but as of this blog, he/she is unknown. While Agassi and Federer were in Dubai recently for the Dubai Duty Free Men's Open (which, incidentally, Federer won), they played tennis at the Burj al Arab Hotel, away from the crowds and noise of the stadium. In fact, they were away from literally everything...the "court" was the hotel's nearly 4,500 square foot helicopter pad, which sets near the top of the hotel tower, 692 feet in the air!

The Burj al Arab, one of the Jumeirah International Hotels, is one of the most fantastic hotels I've ever visited. It's unique exterior, designed by architect Thomas Wills Wright, imitates a billowing sail...it's lobby greets you with all the brilliance and warmth of bold Arabic colors, which are carried on into the suites. Contrary to what you may think, however, the suites are serene and relaxing, complete with amenities to meet your every need while you're in your temporary "home away from home" And, if something is missing, your personal butler, while out of sight so as not to intrude on your privacy, is close enough to satisfy your every whim. Before you fall asleep each evening, you can lie there, looking out over the Gulf waters, viewing the stars above. And, when you awake in the morning and look down from the edge of your bed, you see nothing but water...water, water...every where...what a refreshing way to greet the morning! This luxurious hotel is just a fantastic adventure in and of itself!

Jumeirah International has several hotels, and I've visited two others: the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, designed in the shape of a wave and adjacent to the Burj al Arab, but shoreside; and the Emirate Towers, offering a more business environment and located in downtown Dubai. But as wonderful as these hotels, and I'm sure their other sites are, the Burj al Arab is unrivalled, both in design and experience!

Hey, Agassi...

"Hey, Agassi...did you ever skip rocks when you were a kid?" Roger's turn to hit a ball...Posted by Hello

Watch this...

Strangest tennis court I've ever seen...

No crowds at this tennis match...

"Where are the crowds?!" If you look closely, you can see Roger Federer and Andre Agassi playing tennis on the helipad "court" at the top of the Burj al Arab in Dubai...don't know who won!Posted by Hello
